The goal | The course should enable students to become familiar with the analytical methods used to make sampling and analysis of the air quality and gain the knowledge necessary to perform the air quality analysis.
The outcome | The course covers basic information on the sources and origins of air pollution, the consequences of the presence of pollutants in the air, and the possibilities of both preventing emissions and removing pollutants. The student should gain knowledge on how to properly take a representative sample of air, prepare it for analysis, choose a suitable method of analysis, perform an analysis, and interpret the results obtained.
Contents | ||||
Contents of lectures | Types, character and sources of air pollution. Sampling of ambient air, workplace air, automobile exhaust, natural gas and landfill gas, waste gas from stationary emission sources. Field analysis of ambient air and waste gases. Analytical methods and methods for analyzing the content of respiratory (PM10 and PM2.5) particles, ground-level ozone, nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, benzene, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and heavy metals. Measurement of the exhaust gas flow of the emission. Determination of oxygen, carbon dioxide and methane in landfill gas.
Contents of exercises | Air Analysis: 1. Ambient air sampling and analysis 2. Waste gas sampling and analysis 3. Analysis of gases in the air of the working environment - Determination of total sediment matter - Gravimetric determination of PM10 particles in air - Determination of soot in the ambient air - Determination of sulfur dioxide content in the ambient air - Determination of nitrogen oxides content in the ambient air - Determination of benzene in the ambient air - Determination of CO, SO2, O2, CO2 and NOx in the emission gases
