Condition | Attended courses: Biochemistry, Microbiology at undergraduate level | Облик условљености
The goal | The aim of this course is that students acquire knowledge of the basic biotechnological processes, the principles, kinetics, conditions and calculations of microbial growth and microbial production for various practical purposes (utilized in food, ecological and medical engineering).
The outcome | Acquiring of the principles, calculations and techniques used in various biotechnological processes. By acquiring these principles, calculations and techniques the students will be able to select the most appropriate production microorganism, make a strategy for the improvement of microbial productivity and characteristics, as well as to select appropriate technological parameters, bioreactor design and working regime for the production of microbial biomass, specific metabolites and/or plant and animal tissue.
Contents | ||||
Contents of lectures | The course encompass technology, methods and kinetic aspects of the microbial growth and cell production (bacterial, animal cells, plant cells) for various purposes (food, ecology, pharmacy and medicine). The immobilization of cells, bioreactor design and working regimes for various cell types and production purposes is studied.
Contents of exercises | The course is based on lectures which also include calculations and experimental practice. Calculation examples include kinetic of microbial growth and production for various purposes, in different types of reactors, under different conditions, and working regimes. A part of practical lessons is held experimentally in laboratory through the course Laboratory practicum 2.
