The goal | The aim of the course is to provide an overview of severe plastic deformation processes and its possibilities in production of submicron or nanosized structure of metallic materials.
The outcome | The students will be able to understand and analyze new technologies of severe plastic deformation which are used to achieve very large strains. They will understand the mechanisms of grain size refinement and will be able to correlate submicron or nanosized structure with improved mechanical and other properties of metallic materials.
Contents | ||||
Contents of lectures | Introduction. Main methods for severe plastic deformation processes: 1) Equal channel angular pressing (ECAP), 2) Accumulative roll bonding (ARB), 3) Asymmetric rolling (AR), 4) High pressure torsion (HPT), etc. Influence of temperature, strain rate and deformation routes on the microstructure development. Mechanisms of the grain size refinement. Physical and mechanical properties of metallic materials with submicron or nanosized structure (aluminum, copper, titanium, etc.). The thermal stability of the structure. Deformation at warm and elevated temperatures. Superplasticity.
