The goal | Adopt the knowledge about synthesis, processing and properties of fibers used as reinforcement in composites having metal, ceramic and carbon matrix. Understanding the bonding over interphase and intephase properties and role in composites. The student is enabled to select the matrix suitable for precise reinforcement based on the lectures and proper research. The student, also obtaines and overview of techniques of processing for specific composites having metal, ceramic or carbon/graphite matrix.
The outcome | At the end of the course the student is enabled to corelate the processing, structure and properties of composite materials. The student develops the crytical thinking and problem solving for a specific problem and is enabled to present in writen and oral form the conclusions based on proper research.
Contents | ||||
Contents of lectures | Composite materials enable to combine different properties of maetrials and obtention of materials having designed properties. Metal, carbon/graphite and ceramic composites are among materials having specific properties that will be considered in this course. The students are supposed to write and oraly present their conclusions concerning a specific problem related to those sorts of composite materials based on the literature research. The methods of production, interphase bonding of matrix to the reinforcement and other aspects related to this sort of composite materials will be presented. The aspects of end of life of composite materials having metal, ceramic or carbon matrix will also be discussed.
