The goal | The overall objective is to develop the knowledge and skills of design and technological processes (products and systems) at a higher level of knowledge and skills. Specific objectives are: a) the application of the theory of design elements that relate to the development of technological projects, b) developing skills for computing applications that support the design at a higher level c) team development of technological solutions to the selected problem - task.
The outcome | Mastering the knowledge and skills of practical application of chemical engineering design at a higher level. Experience working in a team, the use of of computer modeling and simulation applications, proper shaping of the project and its presentation.
Contents | ||||
Contents of lectures | Process development and design. Objectives. Development opportunities. Steps in the development of products and processes. Environmental aspects of development. Safety aspects in the development of technological processes. Engineering ethics. Computer support. Development and design of products. The creation process. Simulation in support of the creation process. The synthesis process.
Contents of exercises | Design process based on the results from the laboratory level. The project involves the use of multiple parts of complex process equipment. The project consists of a number of different process models with respect to the thermodynamic properties. The simulation tool to assist the design is AspenPlus or related program. Decision-making in design based on the valid choice of unit operations, equipment parts, energy consumption and investment costs.
