The goal | Knowledge acquired in this course will enable PhD students to become familiar with certain species of microorganisms which have application in biotechnology, to understand techniques used in genetic engineering, to understand the importance of genetic engineering to obtain strains with specific genetic characteristics, to know at which optimal conditions certain microorganism achieves the best yields of desired products.
The outcome | Introduction with the microorganisms which are used in the production of alcohols (ethanol, butanol, glycerol), organic acids (citric, lactic, acetic, gluconic, itaconic), amino acids, vitamins, enzymes, biopolymers, microbial biomass, and numerous food and pharmaceutical products (antibiotics , vaccines), better understanding of the methods used in genetic engineering.
Contents | ||||
Contents of lectures | Study will be focus on those groups and species of microorganisms which are used in the production of alcohols (ethanol, butanol, glycerol), organic acids (citric, lactic, acetic, gluconic, itaconic), amino acids, vitamins, enzymes, biopolymers, microbial biomass and many foods and pharmaceuticals (antibiotics, vaccines). During the course, many genetic methods will be analyzed and through examples will be explained how to obtain microbial strains with improved technological properties.
