The goal | The aim of the course is that students acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to solve specific analytical problems. Trace analysis of some compounds in real samples is a complex analytical problem, and the student should learn about the techniques of sampling, preparation and determination of analytes by suitable analytical technique.
The outcome | During the lectures, consultations and seminar work students develop the skills to select the appropriate experimental method of trace analysis and describe the solution of the problem of their own choice. Also, the public presentation of the seminar develops the student's ability to define the problem, present a solution and evaluate the results of the scientific research.
Contents | ||||
Contents of lectures | Analysis of a pollutants or related groups of compounds in real samples includes proper sampling, sample preparation, purification and determination using suitable analytical method. The whole process depends on the type of sample and the nature of the analyte. The course should help students to solve a specific problem related to the Ph.D. thesis. The student’s seminar should include: criteria for the selection of the analytical procedure that implies proper sampling technique, purification/pre-concentration method, the choice of the analytical method and its experimental implementation, and a critical review of the accuracy and reliability of the results obtained.
