The goal | To get acquainted with theory and practice of objective instrumental assessment of colour (i.e. colour measurement) of polymeric and textile materials. To get knowledge on the influence of texture and certain properties of the material itself on total visual perception.
The outcome | Expected outcomes are: theoretical knowledge within the field of colour measurement of polymeric and textile materials; diagnostic experience (i.e. skill) in use of up to date methods of colour measurement of polymeric and textile materials; professional competences in modern communication methods between research/development, production and commercial elements in the field of polymeric/textile materials.
Contents | ||||
Contents of lectures | The course consists of three modules: theoretical; numerical calculations; and experimental. Theoretical module explains basic principles of colour measurement, with special emphasis on colorimetric systems, whiteness measurement and influence of texture and surface properties of material on its visual perception. Numerical calculations module deals with tristimulus values and chromaticity coordinates calculation based on spectroscopic data, as well as with Kubelka-Munk analysis. Experimental module deals with practical elements of colour and whiteness measurement (e.g. sample preparation; choice of adequate measurement conditions; etc.).
