The goal | The goal of the course is to enable the students to think critically and analytically in the light of basic unit operations in order to design the equipment used for mechanical and heat transfer operations in chemical industry. Introduction to the way of thinking, logic and terminology as well as the sources of information in this area. | |||

Contents of lectures | The basic principles for the selection and design of equipment and devices in chemical industry. Material and energy balances as a basis for the equipment design. Standard and special equipment, energy sources, technical documentation and regulations on the design of the equipment used in chemical industry. Lists of equipment. Equipment types, choice, methods of computation and optimization, structural and operational characteristics and scope of application of different types of devices: solids, liquids and gas storage and transport equipment; equipment for mechanical separations of heterogeneous systems - cyclones, scrubbers; equipment for filtration and centrifugation; mixers for liquids and suspensions; shell-and-tube heat exchangers – Bell Delaware calculation method; vibration analysis; condensers; reboilers; air coolers. | |||
