The goal | The main objective is to gain knowledge about organic pollutants and the behavior of these compounds in the environment. Based on the structure of the compounds and functional groups, the types of chemical reactions and environmental behavior can be predicted: reactivity, solubility in water, binding to the solid phase (soil, sediment), biotic and abiotic transformations.
The outcome | Understanding the importance of organic compounds, how characteristics and application affect emissions, environmental behavior, impact on the living world. The ability of the student to determine, based on the class of compounds, structure and properties, how they will be distributed in the environment, whether and how they will be transformed and what end products can be generated.
Contents | ||||
Contents of lectures | Similarities and differences between classes of organic compounds in terms of environmental behavior and impact on quality: saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons, aliphatic and aromatic, alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, nitro compounds. Manufacturing applications, emissions into the environment, impact on human health. Natural and anthropogenic sources, environmental behavior, transformations and / or accumulation.
Contents of exercises | Organic Structures and Functional Groups Relevant to Geochemistry and Environmental Chemistry. Mobility in the environment. Emission sources, characteristics. Case study analysis.
