The goal | Introduction to metal forming processes. Metallurgy and mechanics of metal forming. General analysis of deformation localization under different stress-strain conditions. Workability assessment for different forming processes and defects identification – solution.
The outcome | Overall knowledge on the deformation processes, assessment of workability limits and understanding of deformation localization phenomena in different processes.
Contents | ||||
Contents of lectures | Strain hardening and plastic instability in bulk and sheet metals in uniaxial or biaxial stress state. Structure effects on plastic instability. Deformation processes. Structure and stress state influence on workability. Sheet metal forming and formability. Bending. Deep drawing and Stretching. Drawability and stretchability assessment. Anisotropy and structure influences. Properties and formability of steel, aluminium alloys, copper and copper alloys.
Contents of exercises | 1. Thermo-mechanical treatment of steel, aluminium or copper alloys, producing different anisotropy levels, grain structures or precipitation/solid solution conditions. 2. Anisotropy assessment, Formability testing (Limiting Drawing Ratio - LDR, Forming Limit Diagram - FLD).
