The goal | Basic knowledge on the selection of appropriate processing techniques for individual polymer materials. Knowledge on specific processing techniques. Training the student to independently recognize the possibilities of recycling polymers. | |||
The outcome | Students are able to predict and evaluate the type and capacity of equipment for processing polymer materials. Students are able to select appropriate technologies for polymer recycling. Students develop the capability to approach problem solving in a comptetent and organized fashion. Students acquire knowledge that enables them to work in industrial practice. | |||

Contents of lectures | 1. Introduction. The significance and volume of polymer processing and recycling at the global and domestic level. 2. Discussion of polymer properties relevant for their processing. Specificities of processing individual polymer materials. Auxiliary raw materials (additives, plasticizers, fillers). 3. Basics of processing polymer materials. 4. Polymer processing techniques. Mixing. Calandering. Lamination. Extrusion. Thermoforming. Rotational forming. Compression moulding. Injection moulding. Reaction injection moulding. Blow moulding. Polymer foam production. Paper production. 5. Processing and manufacturing of composite polymer materials. Processing polymer blends. 6. Principles of polymer reycling. Classification of polymer recycling technologies. 7. Recycling of polyolefins, poly(vinyl chloride), polystyrene, poy(methyl methacrylate), polycarbonate, ABS, polyamides, poly(ethylene terephthalate). 8.
