The goal | Objective is to introduce students to process concepts of petrochemical processing and petroleum refining. Operating units which commonly present in petrochemical processes are studied: heat echangers, distillation columns, pipelines and pumps. | |||
The outcome | After this course students are familiar with processing concepts of petrochemical industry and petroleum refining. Through this course students should adopt practical knowledge which will enable them to analyse petchemical processes using appropriate calculation procedures. | |||

Contents of lectures | Oil refining; Block diagram of modern oil refinery; Refinery streams as inputs to petrochemical processes; Chemical engineering analysis and structure of petrochemical processes; Analysis of methanol synthesis process; Analysis of stirene synthesis process; Energy savings in petrochemical industry; Cascade utiliyation of heat; Work ability function; Exergy and eexergy balance; Heat pump and its application in petrochemical processes; Separation units; Heat exchangers and sizing; Units with fluid mixing; Fluid transport; Piping and elements of piping installations | |||
