The goal | Acquiring theoretical and practical knowledge about information technologies and their application in environmental engineering. | |||
The outcome | Overview of possibilities and limitations of modern information technologies. Understanding the structure of modern information systems, as well as their application in monitoring pollutant activity, monitoring and overall environmental quality management. Practical experinece in defining the structure and requirements for the implementation of an information system, and an insight in organizing implementation and collection of data in accordance with legal regulations and international standards. | |||

Contents of lectures | Fundamentals of modern information systems: evolution, architecture, technology, distribution. Databases as the basis of information systems: funcamentals, internal structure, database management systems, SQL. Applications of information technology in environmental engineering: monitoring of polluters, monitoring of emission, dissemination and presentation of information to stakeholders and public. Environmental management and information technology. Examples of implemented systems. | |||
Contents of exercises | A project that consists of designing an information system in the field of environmental engineering, which provides practical knowledge of basics of system analysis and defining the structure of database driven information systems. | |||
