The goal | Acquiring knowledge on the relationship between polymer structure and morphology and their physical and mechanical properties.
The outcome | After the students fulfilled all the requirements and passed the exam, they : (i) acquired knowledge on polymer properties in solution and solid state; (ii) acquired a capability of predicting the influence of macromolecular structure and morphology on polymer properties.
Contents | ||||
Contents of lectures | Conformation and configuration of polymer chains. Thermodynamics of dilute solutions of polymers. The amorphous state. The crystalline state. Thermodynamics of phase transitions. Glass – rubber transition behavior. Theories of the glass transition. Effect of macromolecular molar mass and other parameters on the glass transition temperature. Cross-linked polymers and rubber elasticity. Thermodynamics of polymer surfaces and interfaces
Contents of exercises | Determination of solubility parameter of polymers by viscometry. Determination of degree of crystallinity by differential scanning calorimetry. Determination of glass transition of polymer by differential scanning calorimetry.
