The goal | The aim of this course is to educate students about basic principles of the testing of textile material using different methods and to learn to apply the law of statistics when processing the measuring results. Besides, the aim of the course is to develop the ability to apply basic engineering knowledge in evaluating the quality of textile materials.
The outcome | Students are trained to be capable of an independent realization of the experiment during the determination of physical and mechanical properties of textile materials with correct processing, interpreting and evaluating measuring results.
Contents | ||||
Contents of lectures | The course provides knowledge of the methodology of preparation of textile materials for testing as well as a certain number of the most important and most commonly used methods for testing the physical and mechanical properties of textile materials. The course includes determining the standard atmospheres for conditioning and testing, ways of bringing samples in standard condition and methods of the sampling. Investigation of dimensional and constructional characteristics, determination of the resistance to different types of external forces as well as friction, abrasion, sorption, thermal and electrical properties of various textile materials are studied. The course also provides knowledge of mathematical statistics and theory of probability necessary for the suitable interpretation of measurement results when testing various properties of textile materials as well as the assessment of the effectiveness of the manufacturing process.
Contents of exercises | Practical lessons include the determination of physical and mechanical properties of textile materials. Fineness, thickness, twist, tensile properties, the coefficient of friction and tensile deformation components are investigations concerning the yarn properties. Density, thickness, surface mass, tensile properties, puncture resistance, recovery from creasing and abrasion resistance are tests that are conducted on woven and knitted fabrics. Within the practical lessons, students apply the elements of the mathematical statistics in the processing and analysis of the test results of textile materials.
