The goal | The goals of the course are to introduce students to the basic as well as advanced knowledge of chemistry of carbohydrates, proteins and lipids. | |||
The outcome | Student will gain knowledge of basic and advanced principles of chemistry of carbohydrates, proteins and lipids, which will enable them to acquire, analyze and connect new concepts easier in future studying and practical work. | |||

Contents of lectures | The geometry of organic molecules (principles of spatial definition; symmetry and asymmetry of natural organic compounds, racemic forms). Carbohydrates (structure, nomenclature and reactions of monosaccharides; complex carbohydrates - natural glycosides and polysaccharides). Proteins (structure, nomenclature, properties, and reactivity of obtaining amino acids; peptide bond and its characteristics, structure and denaturing of proteins). Lipids (composition, structure, properties and distribution of lipids; simple and complex lipids - preparation and reactivity). | |||
